AMY POWERS

Director/Owner

Amy Powers has over 20 years of experience in education, 14 of which have been spent teaching right here in the DeSoto School District. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education and earned a Masters of Science Degree in Teaching and Leadership with an emphasis in Reading.  Amy spent 6 years as a program director for Lake Quivira Preschool, and has taught kindergarten, first grade, and reading intervention with the DeSoto School District.  Amy has also tutored countless students from different ages over the years helping them build academic skills as well as self-confidence.  She truly connects with each of her students, it is not uncommon to see her out in the community and witness a former student run up and greet her with a passionate, “Mrs. Powers!”

Amy has been married to her high school sweetheart, Andy for 25 years.  Fifteen years ago, they chose western Shawnee to be the community to raise their three children.  Their daughter Taylar is currently a junior at Pittsburg State University studying elementary education and special education.  They also have two sons, Drew is a senior at Mill Valley High School, and Blake is a freshman this year.

Amy’s whole world revolves around family and friends.  Outside of the classroom you will find her gathered outdoors for some of their favorite activities, serving their church and this local community together, or simply sharing laughs and great conversation at a local coffee shop or restaurant.  Amy also loves to travel and tackle any kind of craft project in her free time.

Amy has always dreamed of having her own school, and it is such a blessing to see her dream become a reality!  She is beyond excited to partner with the teachers and families at Happy Campers Montessori School to help a new generation of children reach their highest potential and learn to care for the people and environment around them.
